ABOUT US

THE SCOTTISH LGBTQ+ BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

Established in 2025, the Scottish LGBTQ+ Badminton Tournament was created to provide an inclusive, welcoming space for LGBTQ+ players and allies to compete, connect, and celebrate badminton together. Open to players of all genders, sexual orientations, identities, and abilities, the tournament welcomes all skill levels — from social players to experienced competitors.

The tournament was founded by Janis Hunter, inspired by her wife’s lifelong involvement in badminton and their shared experiences attending LGBTQ+ tournaments elsewhere in the UK. Seeing the opportunity to create a dedicated event in Scotland, Janis brought the first tournament to life. Following its success, a volunteer committee of badminton players and community members has since come together to help shape and grow the event for future years.

The first tournament brought together 91 players from across the UK and Europe, with over 200 matches played across multiple categories. The tournament continues to grow and is set to become a permanent and much-loved fixture on Scotland’s badminton calendar.
